Parent FAQ:
Supporting Your Young Adult’s Journey at Adulting Camp Calgary
Moving from dependency to independence is a major milestone. We know you likely have questions about how we manage this transition during camp. Here are the answers to your most common inquiries.

1. Safety & Supervision
How is the camp supervised?
While we treat our attendees as the adults they are, our instructors and staff are present for all scheduled sessions and activities. We maintain a professional ratio to ensure that every attendee has access to guidance while practicing autonomy.
What measures are in place for physical and emotional safety?
We prioritize a "safety-first" culture. This includes strict adherence to facility safety protocols and a "Zero Tolerance" policy for substances and bullying. Emotionally, we create a "brave space" where attendees can discuss the fears of adulthood without judgment.

2. Eligibility & Fit
Why is there an exception made for "High-Functioning Asperger's"?
Our curriculum is designed for young adults who are ready to learn independent living skills. We welcome neurodivergent attendees who can function effectively in a group setting without one-on-one specialized support, ensuring the pace of the camp remains beneficial for everyone.

What if my child has never lived away from home?
That is exactly who this camp is for! We specialize in "first-timers." Our goal is to bridge the gap between the safety of your home and the realities of independent living in a supportive, low-stakes environment.

3. Curriculum & Outcomes
What exactly will they be learning?

Our "Adulting 101" pillars include Financial Literacy (budgeting/taxes), Household Management (cooking/cleaning/repairs), Career Readiness (resumes/interviews), and Mental Resilience (stress management/problem solving).

Will they be "ready" for the real world after one camp?
Adulting is a lifelong process. This camp is designed to provide the tools and the confidence to start, building on the great work done by parents, schools, and other supports up to this stage in their development.

4. Communication & Logistics
Can I check in on my child during camp?
Adulting Camp Calgary is a Mobile Phone-Free Zone. We believe the best way to learn and connect is to be 100% present. Attendees will be asked to check their phone in upon arrival. However, not to worry, they are in good hands! For emergencies, parents will be provided with a 24/7 staff contact number.

What happens if my child is struggling or wants to leave?
Our staff is trained to help attendees work through "growing pains." If a situation arises where an attendee is consistently unhappy or not following rules, we will communicate with you to discuss the best path forward. Having said that, special accommodations can be made if required.

5. The "Drugs, Smoking, and Alcohol Free" Policy
Why is this so strict for 19–21-year-olds?

Even though 18+ is the legal age in Alberta, Adulting Camp Calgary is a focused learning environment. To ensure clarity of mind, safety, and a level playing field for all participants, we maintain a strictly substance-free campus.
